Day #12, The three amigos climb a mountain--miles hiked 14.5

Today was only a 14ish miler, but it felt much much longer than that. First thing after leaving Clarendon shelter, it was up the side of a mountain--classic northern style (no wasting trail with switchbacks). Turns out, the first 6 miles were only a warm up for Killington Peak. Before we got to the base of the real mountain, we had to cross several difficult streams--passing over packs and hanging on for dear life to a rope above the rushing water.
Emily spared her shoes in the second stream, but I slipped off a rock and received the soggy feet award for the day.
Speaking of awards, Emily is in the lead with the wipeout category. The current standings are as follows:
Emily--5
Mr. Berry--4
Minta--3
A wipeout counts if your rear, either/both knees and elbows touch the ground at any point.
After a strenuous climb, we reached Killington Peak--part of the largest ski resort on the east coast and the highest point on the AT in Vermont.
Needless to say, dinner was very welcome when we arrived at Churchill Scott Shelter for the night.
The Inn at the Long Trail tomorrow--check it out!
