After the Glenn party headed for Knoxville, Emily (now known as the speedy Red Snail), Mr. Berry (Shabat), and I (Blueberry) set off for what was my very first Episopal worship service.
We walked in with our backpacks and hiking clothes on, and right in the middle of a moment of silence, Shabat let out this incredibly loud popping noise to announce our arrival. It was definitely not quite like my contemporary Methodist service back home, but we had a great time none the less. After all the serious stuff, everyone relaxed and a little old lady even got accidentally pushed down the altar stairs.
After church, we snacked with the congregation and got a hitch to the grocery store with one of the women. It was so neat to witness the instant connection we had with all of them simply because we are followers of Jesus. Believe it or not, one of the women we met has family in west Knoxville who attend Cokesbury (my church).
We are now resting in the church yard until we get hungry for a final meal and a few miles on the trail.
More to come as we head out for another 50-60 miles on the trail.
