Day #9, Green Mountain House and Subsequent Adventures--miles hiked: 2.8

Today we ventured down to Manchester, VT for some rest, socks, and food!
View from Spruce Peak:
On the way down to the road, Shabbat and I ran into the husband of the woman who holds the all-time AT speed record--just 46 days! She has hiked the trail 3 times and written several books, all of which I want to read when I have the time. What a cool trail encounter! Mr. Davis also recommended the Green Mountain House--the nicest hiker hostel on the trail.
For $25, we have a spectacularly clean house, showers, laundry, a bed with linens, a fully stocked kitchen with breakfast, rides all over town and back to the trail, the hiker lounge where we are watching Mummy, and a pint of Ben and Jerry's! I have a new life dream--to run a place just half as wonderful as this. Our host, Jeff, has thought of everything!
Oh, and for dinner, we had the Mexican we've been craving for 50 miles.
It's going to rain tomorrow, but we're still going walking. Happy trails!
