Day #7, Lots of miles and lots of smiles--miles hiked: 18.4!

After a lovely rest in Bennington, we decided we were ready to try some bigger miles. But first, I have to talk about the awesome people we sheltered with. There were a couple kids in their twenties who were incredibly genuine and in love with the trail and a sweet woman named Debbie and her dog, Skipper. I've never seen such a well-behaved pooch! He wasn't leashed but slept right with us in the shelter. Here's a picture of the gang:
After a restful night, it was off to Glastenberry Mountain.
It was a gentle 8 mile climb to a wooded summit and fire tower. The Green Mountains are very round--deciduous trees on the bottom and pine on the top. From the fire tower, it almost looked like God had made cupcakes with green sprinkles.
We had a nice break, or Shabbat (Sabbath) after lunch--there is no better place to imbibe the Word then on top of a mountain.
We had another 9-10 miles to hike after Glastenberry where we passed lots of ponds and beaver dams before settling in Story Spring Shelter for the night.
Another 18 mile day tomorrow...happy trails!
